Senior Design Engineer Job

About this role:

This person will be responsible for product development from concept through production, which includes new product, sustaining and resolution of field problems. This person will lead electro-mechanical product design and/or redesign, part assembly and detailed part drawings. The role requires this person to lead prototyping, testing, and assembly of samples and also lead various Product Design/development projects. The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate with of all cross functional members of the design team.

How you will contribute:

  • Leads various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation. Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities. Develops and distributes engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, bills of material and parts tracking.
  • Partners with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors in an effort to keep the manufacturing lines running and ensure quality product is produced.  Conducts pilot/pre-production runs. 
  • Actively participates in, or lead on occasion, team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product.
  • Initiates and develops concepts for new products from Project Charters, and Specification Matrix provided by the Project Manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor's samples and documentation, and free design techniques. Ensures concepts are agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility.
  • Support ABS/Lean Transformation by actively participating on Kaizen teams and completing of post Kaizen activity.  May lead aspects of the Kaizen as necessary. 

Key requirements of the role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or 3+ years’ experience required
  • Proficient use of Solidworks, 3D CAD, MS Office, etc.
  • The ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings.
  • Must work well in cross-functional team environments.
  • Possess understanding of manufacturing methods such as drawing, casting, sheet metal forming, extruding of metals and plastics.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to influence and enlist the cooperation of other team members to work towards the goal of completing and implementing new product development on time, and in budget.
  • Knowledge of UL/CSA and UL/CSA testing processes very helpful.
  • Understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety Standards.
