We are seeking a Buyer/ Planner to join our outstanding Supply Chain Team. We are an exciting customer driven architectural lighting design and manufacturing company located in the Oceanside, California. 

How you will Contribute: Buyer / Planner

This position will have responsibility for material replenishment and management.  This role will ensure material availability (using optimum inventory based on Kanban) to enable on time assembly and delivery to the customer.  This position will work closely with the cell leader on the floor managing the scheduling boards and Kanban boards to ensure accurate data to the cells regarding customer demand.


Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Sr. Buyer and Operations Specialist in all facets of supply chain.
  • Verify inventory. Periodically perform cycle counts on the manufacturing floor.
  • Perform many of the tactical procurement duties in the Purchasing department. 
  • Procure and expedite goods and services per the current “Terms and Conditions” with the assurance of maximum quality, minimum cost and timely delivery. 
  • Collaborates with other functional areas such a receiving, shipping, staging and engineering to assure no product process bottlenecks. 
  • Daily interaction with suppliers to ensure open commitment report is received and responded to by supply base. 
  • Maintenance and follow up on specified Purchase Orders (PO's) within the supervision provided.
  • Notify appropriate parties of any critical changes – planning/production/receiving.
  • Coordinate with Receiving and follow up on the delivery, and the expediting to production of material shipments.
  • Maintain product and supplier information for the site’s raw materials.
  • Continually review/update the site’s raw material lead times, reorder points and eoq’s.
  • Request, track and communicate results of material received and utilized in production.
  • Review and respond to all productivity request within 24 hours, coordinating with AP/QC/Shipping/Receiving/Supplier.
  • Execute projects or perform other duties as required.

Experience and Knowledge

  • 3 to 6 years of experience
  • Knowledge of Lean, thorough knowledge of Kanban principles, product component knowledge and assembly processes.  Ability to work collaboratively with hourly personnel.  The ability to develop and train cell leaders to manage a team-oriented production group.  High school math, well developed verbal and written communication skills, proficient in Excel as a tool for data analysis, ability to problem solve and the ability to multi-task are required.
  • Excellent Written and verbal communications skills
  • Microsoft Office skills, Excel Intermediate or above, Power BI helpful
  • Prefer College degree in business administration.
  • Able to Interpret and learn to review negotiated contracts and engineering documents. 
  • Strong reasoning capabilities. Understand profitable transactions.
  • Understanding of MRP System and the effect it has on inventories and purchases.
