This position will give you exposure to the Indoor and Industrial Portfolios, and your efforts will make a direct impact to top line revenue via new products, product enhancements, and technology integrations.  This position works directly with Sales, Software, and Firmware Deployment teams, and has direct interaction with the end Customer.  This role gives you a platform to be a Project Manager and a Design Engineer while being on the forefront of IOT Technology and Integrated Digital Solutions.  If you want to Light the Way and be Connected, be Brilliant, and be Productive, this is the role for you.

As a NPD Design Engineer, you will contribute by:
  • Designing luminaires for use in challenging applications and environments including Wet Locations, High Ambients, Hose Down capable, and Hazardous Locations. This is an opportunity to broaden knowledge by designing parts produced in Die Casings, Injection Molded Plastics, Sheetmetal, Extusions, Gaskets, Glass, etc.
  • Enabling and implementing technical solutions using IOT, Wireless, Blue Tooth Sensors, VLC, etc.
  • Developing Project Management skills by designing luminaires while leading the project team
  • Contributing in various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation. Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities. Developing and distributing engineering data in the form of Engineering Change Notices, bills of material and parts tracking
  • Interacting with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors
  • Initiating and assisting with the development of concepts for new products from Project Charters, and Specification Matrix provided by the Product Manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor's samples and documentation, and free design techniques. These concepts must be agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility.
  • Assisting the team with any/all process improvement activities and related research, which will help to develop the skills to lead teams effectively
  • Supporting ABS/Lean Transformation as a Kaizen team participant and assisting with the completion of post-Kaizen activity/assignments as appropriate
  • Submitting test requests and interacts with the testing group as necessary. Submitting prototyping requests and interacting with the model shop for the production of prototypes and assembly of samples. Reviewing functional specifications, project charters and competitors samples
Qualified Applicants will have:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 0 - 2+ years of engineering work experience in lighting, or a related field 
  • Demonstrated successful experiences collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office preferred
  • Possess some understanding of manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting, extruding of metals and plastic
