About this Team:

This is a close-knit team dedicated to serving engineering by conducting testing on new and existing products. The team is essential to new product development and is focused on continuous improvement of processes and practices in testing. This role will be given the opportunity to be successful by learning from the best in lighting and will be encouraged to share your own ideas.

How you will contribute:

This role is responsible for test and measurement operations on Acuity Brands lighting products, component parts and related materials. Additionally, this person will help to maintain activity records, generate finished reports for the customer and forward finalized reports to the customer once the supervisor has reviewed and approved. Matrix partners for the Lab Technicians include engineers to modify products for additional testing.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Thermal, electrical, mechanical, environmental, and photometric Testing of Acuity Brands products required for third party safety Certification and to ensure products meet internal and external specification. Testing is based on adaptation of generic Certification body test method to the specific Acuity Brands product and includes set-up, testing, reporting and interpretation of results to product groups. This includes testing of digital, analog, and mixed signal electronic circuits for lighting and lighting controls
  • Maintain lab space to meet 5S goals. Adapt and modify to improve testing performance as need arises
  • Measure in accordance with KPI metrics. Shared accountability within department to fulfill ABS/Lean initiatives. Using Lean tools and KPI measures to maintain a consistent flow through the lab, and identify areas/activities in need of improvement

Qualified Applicants will have:

  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of the testing associated with Safety standards such as UL standards to enable certification by a third-party safety certification body
  • Experience in electrical, electronic and illumination engineering preferred
  • Excellent communication skills to and drive to work with clients to fully understand the scope of the requested information
  • Able to verify complicated test data to ensure the result obtained through testing conforms to UL, IES and Acuity Brands standards. Able to construct needed test apparatus to perform the requested testing, e.g. building an enclosure for Thermal Testing of any unusual luminaries' geometry or constructing mounting apparatus for luminaries being tested for photometric data collection
  • Able to read electrical wiring diagrams, as well as understand and use numerous technical instruments required to perform the requested testing
  • Proficient with SharePoint software, Excel, Word and other Windows applications. Typing skills required
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
