Program Overview & Location

The Acuity Brands Internship Program is a 10–12-week experience (May – August, 40 hours/week) designed to develop high-potential candidates into marketing leaders through hands on experiences that connect interns’ strengths and interests with the needs of the business. In addition to making an impact through your participation in key projects and transformative processes, you will have an opportunity to mentor and network with leaders throughout Acuity Brands.

 

It is preferred for interns to only have one or two semesters left in their degree program, so they can be considered for our Leadership Program immediately following the completion of the internship. Our Leadership Program is a full-time, entry level rotational program that allows recent graduates to explore different areas within a functional area. These experiences allow young talent to grow their skill set and network within the company while figuring out what they are passionate about early on in their careers.

 

This hybrid opportunity works from Acuity’s ISF facility in Decatur, GA as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

While specific projects and activities vary during your internship, you can expect to:

  • Gain experience in the field of electronics technology and light engine design.
  • Collaborate closely with work our electronic and light engine associates to define processes, create/prepare test samples, and create LED sphere equipment operation procedures.
  • Learn to share responsibilities and collaborate effectively with a diverse team of internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Gain experience in validating the performance of supplier components to harmonize EPC data sets and ensure data integrity.
  • Participate in creating and refining operational procedures for LED sphere equipment, providing a unique opportunity to work with specialized lighting technology.
  • Understand how to leverage enhanced performance specifications for components to strategically influence Acuity Brands' supply base.
  • Learn to use Excel for complex data analysis, including the use of advanced formulas, data sorting, and visualization techniques.
  • Learn how validated component test results can drive innovation in luminaire designs, providing an opportunity to lead the lighting market.
  • Gain practical knowledge in designing circuits for light engines, understanding the components, and applying design principles to real-world applications.
  • Utilize learned knowledge and test results to drive execution related to the consolidation of Acuity purchased components and materials.
  • Travel 1-20%

Qualifications

In addition to pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, qualified interns will have:

  • Relevant internship or project experience.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including sketches, engineering drawings, and presentations.
  • Proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Experience leading teams or organizations.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and electrical components from relevant coursework, essential for circuit design and analysis.
  • Competence in using and troubleshooting electrical measuring equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, photometry testing devices), including setup, measurement, and cleanup.
  • Some knowledge of electrical design software (LTspice, Multisim, Altium Designer) for creating and analyzing circuit designs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, developed through group projects and team activities.
