Job Summary

The Sales Director is part of Acuity’s Direct Sales Channel focusing on the Horticulture market (vertical farming, leafy greens, soft fruits & vegetables, and cannabis).  This position will report directly to VP, Direct & Utility Sales Channel.  This role will be responsible for creating Acuity’s Go-To-Market sales & marketing strategy through developing and leading a direct sales team targeting end users.  This position will also work heavily with our product, marketing and service teams to align our business outcomes.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of an overall sales strategy to further penetrate Acuity Brand Lighting’s position in the Horticulture lighting market.
  • Hire, train & develop a Direct Sales team to cover the US & Canadian markets.  These Direct Sellers will report directly to this position.
  • Establish key relationships with key end-users to drive significant growth in the Horticulture lighting market.
  • Support the use of CRM (SalesForce) systems to manage sales team’s sales project pipeline, prospecting efforts as well as action plan deployment.  Utilizes BSF tools to improve processes and increase sales force effectiveness. 
  • Main point of contact with product & marketing teams in roadmap prioritization, marketing strategies and other key connection points.
  • Provides a two-way feedback loop to applicable sales channels – proactively supporting sales/project opportunities while transferring knowledge transfer between multiple groups.
  • Collects feedback on product trends/opportunities/gaps and synthesizes trends and insights to prioritize solutions that help define the future-looking technology innovation roadmap and strategy. 
  • Develop business analytics needed to further penetrate horticulture lighting segment.
  • Outline reporting requirements to improve visibility and insights for all applicable sales roles.
  • Establish metrics of success and uses data to drive regular reviews with stakeholders.
  • Lead our marketing efforts by attending, organizing, and identifying industry related trade shows and events. 

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

  • Must have 5-7 years of experience in the Horticultural lighting industry
  • Experience with managing and mentoring people
  • Background in building successful, cohesive teams
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Successful track record of being a charismatic leader, team player and motivator with excellent written, verbal and presentation and communication skills.
  • Challenges status quo with a bias towards action.  Thoroughly analyze problems, making decisions that are well supported by data.
  • Financial acumen with an understanding of how decisions affect financial results.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment to support key business strategies.
  • Experience working with end users in the horticultural markets.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel up to 75%

The range for this position is $143,600.00 to $322,700.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
