Sr Electronics Technician - Material Science & Failure Analysis Job

This key position is located at our headquarters in our Conyers, GA. We offer four day work weeks, onsite café, wellness classes and much more! The Senior Electronics Technician - Material Science and Failure Analysis is responsible for the inspection and failure analysis for printed circuit assemblies and electronic devices, materials characterization, mechanical and metallographic tests, stress and strain analysis, root cause and solving problems analysis, improvement projects, process development, supporting to production, quality and process departments, technical training. In addition, this Technician is responsible for the Failure Analysis Lab control, quality metrics, assets and resources, construction of prototype circuits/controls, validating manufacturability of electronics products, and provides feedback to Engineering and PCB designers regarding issues found, and conducts Laboratory Analysis and testing for electronic designs. How you will contribute:
  • Perform Laboratory analysis for x-sectioning electronic parts and components, analysis of force required to detach a component for a printed circuit board to accomplish specifications, Inspection and validation of new components to validate manufacturability
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies in clean, reliable condition.  Minimize cost of laboratory operations by being proactive in suggesting new, innovative means to achieve a specific company goal. 
  • Perform engineering design validation for manufacturing. Report results to the project team. 
  • Attend training sessions, meetings, technical presentations to remain up-to-date with latest techniques, procedures and/or company policies.   Conduct on-job-training to newly hired or appointed employees.  Cross train with employees specializing in other facets of laboratory operations
  • Develop of several procedures: visual and x-ray inspection, chemical analysis, mechanical and strain analysis.
  • Reduce systematically the time delivery and lead time for products and processes in FA Lab.
  • Implement the control and quality metrics in the area.
  • Establish a feedback method for our services and a continual improvement process for the results.
  • Participate in several Kaizen Events from different departments.
  • Gave support on daily basis to process, engineering and quality teams.
  • Troubleshoot failures/issues from prototype and design validation.  Report findings/recommendations to the hardware and Printed Circuit board designer(s). 
  • From schematics, assemble prototype circuits and/or controls to prove out design concepts.  Working with the hardware designer, conduct testing to verify design.  Construct testers/fixtures as required to complete prototype evaluation.


Qualified Applicants will have:
  • 2 years experience plus education listed below.
  • Ability to develop of several procedures: visual and x-ray inspection, chemical analysis, mechanical analysis.
  • Ability to interpret soldering issues through X-section images and metallurgic data
  • Gave support on daily basis to process, engineering and quality teams.
  • Experience in electronic controls development and knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering principles. 
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to construct circuits, controls and testers. 
  • Ability to understand and use various lab equipment (including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, data acquisition devices, frequency generators and others as needed) required in troubleshooting and testing electronic controls. 
  • Ability to interpret test data and provide input to the hardware designer(s) on circuit analysis 
  • Good communication skills. 
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 10%.

Education: Technical or Associates Degree in Electronics
