About this Team

This team is responsible for the day to day processing and investigation of carrier freight claims, the issuance of credits to customer and collecting of reimbursement funds from carriers.  They actively manage the freight claim handling process to ensure compliance with federal rules/regulations, carrier liability rules, the terms, and conditions of transportation contracts and related company customer considering practices.  Additionally, this team reviews, files and resolves various types of freight claims, including course of action, developing arguments/addressing carrier rebuttals, and preparing/issuing notices to carriers and customers.  They also mitigate the difference between the claim dollars filed and claim dollars collected in order to minimize ABL/customer lost revenue, and are responsible for maintaining official claims records, spreadsheets, and databases. 

How you will contribute:

  • Provide initial contact for customers/agencies for issues related to delivery expectations.  Receive Claim Forms, print/obtain documents required to disposition claim (invoice, delivery receipt, carrier exception report, packing slip, etc.).  Entry of claim, provide acknowledgement to customer
  • Validate claim, authorize credit, and review documentation.  Determine validity of claim.  Determine root cause of claim.  Engage shipping origin and/or consignee subject matter experts as required.  Document findings, approve the credit, and file the claim or both based on the claim
  • Manage carrier claim filing process – determine extend of carrier liability and process the claim.  Mitigate claim, negotiate settlements when applicable.  Compile/submit report of daily credit approvals for final authorization to the Revenue Realization Department
  • Ensure claims resolution has been fulfilled, which includes checking payment receipt, payment data entry is consistent and closed with both internal files ad with the customer through claim settlement
  • Document product/packaging/handling issues and/or complaints and engage the appropriate DC/Plant management to implement corrective actions for prevention of future occurrences
  • Utilize ABS/Lean tools to improve processes/communication/resolution for solutions that results in improved process efficiency, reduction of delivery defects and improved customer satisfaction

Qualified Applicants will have:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required. 
  • Technical, associates or bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, or Logistics preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the legal aspects regarding Freight Claims management, including Federal statutes/regulations, terms of sale, carrier tariffs and the contract of carriage preferred
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Access and Excel required
  • Self-Motivated, self-starter, excellent problem-solving skills.  Customer sensitive, superior organizational skills and able to work under pressure
  • Availability to work overtime as needed to meet group objectives
