Senior Manager, Payroll Operations Job

Reporting to the VP, Shared Services, Acuity Brands is seeking an experienced Sr. Manager, Payroll Operations who will have direct responsibility for US Payroll operations and provide guidance and oversight for international payroll operations with a strong focus on Canada and Mexico.

 

 The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead coordination, maintenance and continued growth and development of payroll operations
  • Guide operations and strategy to manage information in support of human resources and finance teams.
  • Design and implement modifications, updates and enhancements in technology/vendors, applications and processes to ensure optimal performance in the delivery of payroll services
  • Support senior management with specific data reporting needs. Identifies any unmet system/data needs of the business and works to develop appropriate solutions
  • Deliver on continuous payroll improvement targets
  • Facilitate the integration of new/updated payroll processes and/or vendors into the payroll operating model
  • Coordinate with partners, customers and key stakeholders (HR Operations, Finance, Internal Audit, HR, IT and Management) to ensure integration, efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of global payroll services as well as addressing business needs with a customer focused and compliant disposition
  • Ensure Internal Audit controls and SOX narratives are correct and comprehensive
  • Oversee Canada and Mexico assignee payroll processes
     

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of increasing responsibility in payroll functions both in-house and with third-party payroll providers; should have payroll and benefit responsibility for 4000-10,000 employees
  • International/Regional leadership position held in HR Shared Services environment
  • International payroll experience. Expert knowledge of payroll principles and compensation and tax laws in US, Canada, familiarity with Mexico principles and regulations
  • Experience in payroll taxes and basic accounting a must
  • Excellent understanding of the critical success factors for payroll operations, including managing effective and efficient payroll services both internally and provided by external payroll providers
  • Knowledge and experience in SOX compliance, wage and hour laws, payroll processing, time and attendance systems such as SAP Success Factors, Workforce and ADP (SAP Success Factors is strongly preferred)
  • Team leadership experience required; proven experience nurturing, developing and mentoring a team  
  • Acquisition experience required 
  • Bilingual in Spanish or French a plus
  • 15% - Travel

 

Preferred Skill Sets:

  • BA/BS Preferred
    Experience across a broad spectrum of payroll products SAP Success Factors and/or ADP experience strongly preferred
