Job Summary

Works with product management teams from different business units to determine and document technical specifications for new solutions, major features, products, systems, and platforms. Develops and presents conceptual options to stakeholders as appropriate, clearly communicating advantages and tradeoffs of each option to reach consensus on the most appropriate choice. Collaborates with development teams to ensure feasible designs and minimize technical risks before development begins; helps to solve problems and update design documentation during development. Possesses expert knowledge of lighting controls and Acuity products, handles the most complex issues, and works with other experts to create and update design guidelines. Monitors IP landscape, new products, emerging technologies, and best practices and determines applicability to the lighting industry; understands key competitors' products and differentiating features. Assists senior leadership in strategic planning for products. Thinks creatively, strategically, and analytically; performs work with a high degree of latitude. Able to lead others through influence; provides coaching, and/or mentoring to junior staff members; may also act as lead or first-level supervisor.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Works with product management teams from different business units to develop and refine concepts for new solutions, major features, products, systems, and platforms. | 20%
Works with development teams by providing System Architecture documentation to enabled detailed design. | 40%
Evaluate and generate IP related to technical projects to avoid infringement and secure protections. | 10%
Provide peer review of System Architecture and other technical documentation generated by others. | 10%
Gain and maintain expert knowledge of Acuity products, systems and processes. | 10%
Gain and maintain expert knowledge of competitive products, and related industry and development best practices. | 10%

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

8 to 12 years of engineering leadership or system architecture experience
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
Experience in system architecture and development involving lighting control, drivers, or an adjacent industry.
Experience working with protocols, networks, and technical standards.
Knowledgable about modern software, firmware and hardware development best practices and associated technologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Skilled at leading others through influence, working collaboratively, mentoring technical leaders.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Master's Degree or Equivalent
Experience in system architecture and development involving lighting control.
Experience designing protocols, networks, and technical standards.
Experience delivering solutions which include software, firmware and hardware using modern technologies.
Contribution to published IP relating to lighting control or adjacent fields.

The range for this position is $143,600.00 to $322,700.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
