Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

  • Oversee the accurate, timely and efficient filing of sales and use tax returns.
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual property tax returns and proper accrual in the financial statements
  • Review property tax assessments to determine if assessment appeal should be engaged.
  • Direct the strategy on all audits of indirect tax in various jurisdictions to minimize the impact on business.
  • Engage/negotiate with tax authorities, responding to inquiries and resolving any tax-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Identify and implement indirect tax operational process improvements, focusing on controls, automation, efficiency, and analytics.
  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws, assessing their impact on Acuity and communicating to senior leadership on strategy.
  • Utilize analytics to better understand indirect tax spend to identify potential areas of overpayment and underpayment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate tax considerations into business operations, contracts, and transactions.
  • Perform research and provide analysis on tax considerations to operationalize new offerings while minimizing tax risk.
  • Ensure company’s FAS 5 reserves are adequate in accordance with GAAP.
  • Partner with business to assist with VAT compliance/system automation as company expands internationally.
  • Direct daily operating and administrative activities of the tax department including; maintain department budget, oversee invoice payments for outside services, responding to global operations as needed and support VP on various projects and initiatives.

  • Communication: Communicates clearly across multiple channels of communication (verbal, email, PowerPoint)

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

 

  • 10+ years of Indirect Tax experience 
  • Bachelors Degree required 
  • Prior people leadership experience 
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, sales tax engine implementation and indirect tax compliance software
  • Strong experience with State sales and use tax laws and fluency with rules in Canada and Mexico
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

 

  • Preferred Analytical skills (Power BI or Alteryx)
  • Masters Degree

  • 1-20%

The range for this position is $121,700.00 to $250,700.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
