Applications Engineer - Distech Controls Energy Services Job

What will be your role?

We are recruiting for an Applications Engineer who will be part of the Strategic Accounts team (DCES). You will be responsible for developing control system engineering drawings, submittal packages, sequence of operations, and control logic programming for our strategic customers. You will be leading the design engineering activities to support the successful implementation of large and/or multi-site building automation projects.  

Reporting to the Director of Operations & Engineering, the Applications Engineer will be responsible for delivering a high level of consistency in engineering and project delivery of our Strategic Account Customer projects.

How you will contribute:

  • Develop Detailed Design Engineering drawings for Building Automation and Control Systems.
  • Produce BMS Submittal Packages, including:
    • Panel drawings, network architecture (riser) drawings, control schematics and floorplans
    • Equipment and IP schedules
    • Bill of Materials
    • Check out and commissioning documentation
  • Provide oversight and assistance to Startup Technicians in helping troubleshoot installation issues during the startup and commissioning of building controls and systems
  • Develop and refine engineering processes and standards for multi-site (enterprise) systems to increase efficiency and add value and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Perform MEP Drawings and Specifications reviews and ‘take-off’s’
  • Develop detailed ‘Sequence of Operation’ documents intended for client review and application programming development
  • Provide input to the Sales staff as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems
  • Provide Service Department support on upgrades and existing installations to continue meeting existing customer needs and to insure and recommend efficient building operation
  • Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist in turnover of projects from Operations Team to Service Team
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualified Applicants will have:

  • Minimum of high school diploma
  • Two year technical degree in HVAC or Electronics related studies preferred. An undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical related studies is excellent
  • Application of DDC Controls or Automation Engineering of 5 years in a control systems environment
  • Other technical experience such as military, on the job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement as determined by management
  • Ability to work effectively from a home office/remotely
  • Self starting individual, able to think outside the box, ability to prioritize and work effectively without daily guidance/supervision
  • Current passport and ability to travel 25%

Preferred experience and expertise including but not limited to:

  • 3 years or more experience in control systems design using AutoCAD
  • Extensive experience with Distech gfx as well as Niagara AX and/or Niagara 4
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating multiple software packages, such as Excel, AutoCAD and Visio, to increase productivity
  • A vast understanding of computer networking and configuring of systems to communicate on customers computer networks and be able to troubleshoot any networking issues that arise
  • The ability to configure and debug computer and software related problems
  • A thorough understanding of HVAC operations within and how they interact with overall building performance
  • A clear ability to work with electronic equipment such as volt meters, amp meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • The ability to troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuitry including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams
  • Clear and concise ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • The ability to build lasting relationships with customers through verbal and written communication
  • An ability to understand empathetically the issues and perceptions others have and to creatively and successfully work through these issues to achieve a successful outcome in both an individual and team environment.
