We're seeking an enthusiastic Director of Sales based out of the Charlotte, North Carolina area.

Job Summary

Responsible for the profitable sales of Acuity’s consumer retail product portfolio to one or more retailers in the home improvement center and hardware store channel through both direct and third party sales agency efforts.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop and achieve annual sales and profitability targets for assigned customers
  • Lead sales efforts for brick and mortar stock and special-order sales in order to achieve long and short term sales and profit objectives
  • Drive sales agency performance through effective goal setting, training, and sales management
  • Ensure customer marketing and training requirements are identified and well executed
  • Create customer profiles and a PESCO sales funnel encompassing all sales opportunities
  • Develop tools to assess size of opportunities and penetration with assigned customers
  • Work with Category Management team to implement growth strategies
  • Utilize customer transaction and third party data to understand factors that impact performance and implement strategies to improve sell through at the retail point-of-sale
  • Work with retail partners to test concepts and monitor test effectiveness
  • Develop intimate customer relationships and deep understanding of customer, strategy, personnel, and processes
  • Ensure customer processes and requirements are clearly understood and supported across the Acuity organization
  • Maintain a close understanding of product launches, discontinuations, promotions, and sell-through performance and work with Sales Operations to maximize fill-rate performance with minimum risk of excess inventory
  • Use Acuity Business System (ABS) tools to solve business problems and improve processes


Required Experience and Education
  • 7-10 years of experience in sales to major retailers, including at least five years selling to home improvement centers or hardware stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Ace, and Hardware
  • Highly experienced in preparing for retail product line reviews:  including the development of merchandising recommendations, merchandising presentation, and financial proforma creation
  • Experience selling products into the Canadian market is desirable
  • Basic understanding of product line design and product development processes
  • Strong communication skills and matrix mentality
  • Ability to succeed in a matrix organization
  • Must be able to deliver both long and short term objectives in a fast paced environment
  • Advanced analytical capability and strong understanding of business finance
  • A four-year college degree is required for this position
Job Responsibilities
  • Team Management - Management of sales team, implement Strategy Deployment Goals
  • Product Portfolio � Responsible for product category management. Determine and implement strategies w/ key Vertical markets
  • New business growth � responsible for developing strategy to expand category and line card w/ existing customers and devising plans to onboard new customers
  • Budget Management - Compliance to annual requirements in sales and expense management of personal and regional budgets. Creating a maximum return on investment of corporate assets.
  • Problem Resolution - Minimize conflict between customer expectations and ABL capabilities. Handle escalation of conflict mitigation with other sales channels.
  • Maintain a consistent product training schedule for the sales team on new products introduced, focusing on new technology and full solution sale.
