Distech Controls designs and manufactures products of control in the field of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, as well as in lighting and building access management. These solutions are essential to the proper operation of the buildings and the health and well-being of its occupants. Among its customers and end users, Distech Controls counts hospitals, health clinics, banks, data centers and other critical buildings. The commercial activities of Distech Controls being therefore deemed essential, the company continues normal operations in order to ensure the health and well-being of the population.

About this Team

We are looking for a designer to join the Distech team in Montreal, Canada. We’re seeking a designer who thinks holistically and uses modern tools to evaluate concepts quickly. One who is willing to engage in both exploration of concepts and refinement of details.

While the position is physically in Montreal, the role will require working intimately with the DGLogik team located in California, to help design state of the art IOT applications for various vertical markets including Business Intelligence, Smart Cities, Industrial Automation, Building Automation and others.


How you will contribute:

Internally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining UX/UI standards for internal products and applications as required by both DGLogik and Distech partners and customers. In collaboration with Distech/DGLogik product and application teams, you will be responsible for developing user interfaces for various software and hardware product, such as the UNITOUCH or the UNIWAVE, interface for thermostat, as well as web apps or mobile apps, etc. You will work closely with UX/UI Design Team, Product Managers, Project Managers, Application Engineers, and will be involved throughout the project lifecycle.

Externally, you will work with customers to design applications that solve everyday problems by analyzing specific requirements and user goals. Your designs will be brought to life by Application Engineers through the implementation of graphics in DGLux.

In this role you will:
•Design and iterate side-by-side with designers, prototypes, application engineers, product managers and others
•Quickly visualize and wireframe/prototype ideas to communicate concepts
•Present design ideas to multiple stakeholders and clearly articulate rationale, logic and research as supporting evidence for well thought through design decisions
•Design and develop comprehensive user interfaces for various products, product families, demos, and applications
•Participate in all stages of design, from concept to implementation
•Observe usability testing sessions alongside designers, researchers, to understand customer pain-points and goals
•Participate in peer design critiques to give and receive feedback
•Work closely with external clients to define the layout, workflow, content, and style of their applications which will then be used by Application Engineers to be developed in DGLux/Envysion
•Design and develop widgets and applications for mobile, tablet, and desktop
•Execute in a fast-paced environment
•Actively contribute to improve the internal processes and tools used by the team


Qualified Applicants will have:


•Excellent user experience, interaction, and visual design skills
•4+ years of industry experience in product design
•4+ years of experience designing enterprise tools
•An interest in building management systems, energy, automation, IoT
•Very strong cross-functional collaboration skills
•Proven ability to question, help shape, and guide product strategies


•Design Tools: Sketch (strongly preferred), Adobe XD, Adobe creative suite
•Prototyping tools: Invision, Marvel
•Knowledge in React, JavaScript, CSS, HTLM5, JSON
•Editorial skills in English and French
