Job Summary
We are currently looking for a dynamic and passionate leader to fill the position of Director of Manufacturing Engineering reporting to the Senior Director Operations. This person will be responsible for a team of Engineers and will participate in the corporate strategy development and execution for world-class manufacturing processes. This position requires strong working relationships across the organization to effectively solve technical problems and continually improve product quality, yield, cycle times and costs.
The Director of Manufacturing Engineering ensures the implementation of Lean Manufacturing best practices, compliant with the operational excellence system in place (ABS), in an environment of electronic goods test and assembly.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Define and standardize manufacturing processes implemented in the Distech Controls production sites in Canada and France. Develop and execute strategies that support new product development and new technology integration in production.
- Ensure performance of the automated production environment, as it pertains to both software and hardware, by implementing the best preventative maintenance methodologies and optimizing existing processes.
- Manage projects surrounding electronic boards automated testing software and equipment development.
- Implement an efficient test sequences development program supporting quality and productivity requirements.
- Determine and deploy process optimization programs that yield improvements in quality, cost or productivity. Track results based on objectives.
- Oversee projects surrounding electronic boards testing software and equipment development.
- Actively participate in information systems projects as it relates to manufacturing engineering.
- Manage manufacturing engineering projects and delegate responsibilities adequately.
- Act as a liaison and business partner to the production and product development teams, supporting new product introductions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our DFMEA and PFMEA practices, in collaboration with the product development, quality and production teams.
- Implement relevant key performance indicators. Define targets and execute necessary action plans and projects towards higher operational efficiency.
- Research and suggest new technologies for manufacturing engineering, supporting future product launches and growth strategies. Evaluate and develop next-generation production concepts.
- Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with key suppliers, always in the objective of improving quality, costs or productivity. Share expertise and work with suppliers to resolve issues.
As a Manager
- Align team’s efforts to the corporate strategy;
- Establish annual objectives and perform appraisal process;
- Coach team members in their professional development and promote Distech culture and strategy.
- Promote and implement Distech’s operational excellence system based on LEAN Manufacturing.
- Manage and track department budget.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience:
- Master degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineer, automated production engineering or equivalent experience.
- 12+ years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment; 5 years in management position.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Ability to develop a high performing team, aligned with the organizational values.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluent in French and English, written and spoken.
- Advanced knowledge in Lean Manufacturing.
Assets:
- Experience with test automation softwares (NI Teststand).
- Knowledge of electronic boards assembly methods (SMT, TH, suppliers etc.)
- Knowledge in microelectronics, troubleshooting and programming.
- Working experience in production equipment solutions design and implementation.
- Experience with ERP systems and/or MES.
- Expertise with standards such as CE, UL, CSA, etc.
- Knowledge in HVAC and Building Management Systems / Knowledge of protocols such as Lonworks and/or BACnet.
