Job Summary

 

Acuity Brands is seeking a highly skilled software quality engineer to join its Quality Engineering team, focusing on developing internal tools and automation aimed at solving complex problems. As part of the team, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless experience for our quality engineering team, development team, and customers. The ideal candidate will be passionate about collaborating with a diverse group of engineers to validate and develop test automation for end-to-end systems requirements and complex tasks associated with the release of new products and software releases within our Intelligent Spaces business group. 

 

The mission of our quality engineering team is to drive our organization’s culture of quality by championing automated continuous testing, implementing smarter testing methodologies, and enabling squads to reliably deliver high-quality software. In doing so, you will enable our engineering teams to develop and deliver new products and services to market, along with guiding and mentoring junior team members.

 

Our teams are highly distributed, and remote work is the norm.  Culturally, we emphasize trust, respect, asynchronous communication, creativity, and providing value to our customers.  Our day-to-day is guided by an agile design methodology, closely collaborating with all technology teams within our Intelligent Spaces business group.
 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

As a senior software automation engineer on our team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining robust automated testing frameworks and tools. The ideal candidate has a strong background in test automation, a passion for developing scalable solutions, and the ability to lead initiatives that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our testing processes. How you will contribute:


•    Work with software engineers, designers, and product managers to develop software application test plans, build test automation, and issue resolution.
•    Develop high-quality test automation and tools from which others can create repeatable automated tests.
•    Assist in end-to-end testing, documentation, and training for using applications and tools effectively. 
•    Share test automation practices with engineers to drive “shift left” testing disciplines and practices (incorporate testing earlier in development) within a team.
•    Mentor and develop the technical and problem-solving skills of the members of the quality engineering team.

 

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

 

•    5+ years of professional experience in JavaScript, Python, or similar programming languages.  Working through all phases of the software development lifecycle.
•    Test automation experience using open-source technologies and/or in-house frameworks.
•    Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, test automation tools, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
•    Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or relevant experience.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

 

•    Experience working with or building products/services within the intelligent building space (e.g., HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, etc.).
•    Have experience using Azure.
•    Experience developing simulations or mocking hardware components such as sensors, lighting, thermostats, etc. 
•    Significant experience as a QA Engineer, software developer, or similar position, preferably with responsibilities across multiple teams or product areas.

The range for this position is $112,200.00 to $252,200.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
